Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Group (MBSR)
This 8-week group, based foundationally on Eastern wisdom and adapted from the protocol laid out by Jon Kabat Zinn, teaches mindfulness meditation, body awareness, and gentle movement practices to assist people with a variety of life conditions. These include anxiety, depression, chronic pain, and stress and overwhelm. The aim is for clients to improve self-awareness and foster a shifted relationship with their body as they also work to build up concentration and insight that has been impacted by symptoms of trauma, stress, anxiety and other mental health struggles. Topics covered include: general introduction to sitting meditation and mindfulness, mindful movements, responding to thoughts, emotions and physical sensations, building mindful awareness of pleasurable activities, learning your stress patterns, using cultivated awareness to reduce reactivity to life's pain, more intentional communication, and developing healthy and intentional daily habits.
Important to note: while this group will have some didactic and discussion, it is mostly experiential and requires a willingness to participate in mindful activities within a group setting. These experiential activities may lead to some emotional activation as they include concentration on internal stimuli, use of imagery and some light movements. Although no experience or particular belief systems are required, if you are uncertain about your current capacity to engage in this group, please contact the facilitators for further information and to discuss your specific needs or queries.
